Global alumina production down 6% on month in Apr, says aluminium institute

MUMBAI – Global alumina production fell nearly 6% on month to 11.92 million tonnes in April, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. On a yearly basis, alumina production fell nearly 3% from 12.24 million tonnes.
Average daily global alumina production fell to 397,400 tonnes in April from the revised 408,000 tonnes in March, as per the data. Alumina production in China fell to 7.37 million tonnes in April from 7.53 million tonnes in March. The country's output, which accounts for nearly 62% of global alumina production, rose nearly 2% from a year ago, the data showed.
In the Oceania region, alumina output fell over 6% on month to 1.27 million tonnes in April. In Africa and Asia, excluding China, alumina production fell 26% on month to 962,000 tonnes. In Europe, including Russia, production fell nearly 4% on month to 588,000 tonnes in April, and the output in South America fell 9% on month to 959,000 tonnes, the data showed.
According to the International Aluminium Institute, global production of primary aluminium fell over 5% on month to 5.92 million tonnes in April. At 1111 IST, the most active June aluminium contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was up 0.4% at INR 388.00 per kg. On the London Metal Exchange, the three-month aluminium contract was up 0.6% at $3,695.00 per tonne. End
