MUMBAI – Mustard seed prices fell in Jaipur but rose in Kota, traders said. Soybean and groundnut prices were steady in key markets, they added. Oilseed prices in India have recovered sharply on year in May with millers and refiners shifting towards domestic oilseeds from costlier imported crude edible oils, traders added.

MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, fell by INR 25 to INR 7,850-INR 7,875 per 100 kg after rising for the past few days on firm demand for domestic oilseeds amid higher cost of imported crude edible oils, traders at the Marudhar Trading Agency said. Arrivals across the country were at 750,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down from 800,000 bags the previous day, they said. Prices fell as demand was subdued at higher rates, traders said.

In Kota, also in Rajasthan, mustard seed prices rose by INR 30 to INR 7,680 per 100 kg as crushers were keen to buy domestic oilseeds instead of relying on imported finished products, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Mustard seed arrivals in Kota were at 22,000 bags, up 2,000 bags from the previous day, he said.

SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at INR 3,325-INR 7,850 per 100 kg after rising by INR 200 the previous day because of firm demand from millers, Narendra Porwal, a local trader said. Arrivals were at 3,600 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), same as the previous day, he said. In Kota too, soybean prices were steady at INR 7,450 per 100 kg as demand was limited to immediate need at higher prices, Sameriya said. Arrivals were at 14,000 bags, same as the previous day.

GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 3,350-INR 8,450 per 100 kg, traders said. Arrivals were at 3,200 bags (1 bag = 30 kg), the same as the previous day, they said.
