MUMBAI – Temperatures in Delhi have remained elevated in the past week, with many weather stations recording mercury levels between 43 and 45 degrees Celsius. The weather remained hot and dry, and temperatures did not breach 45 degrees Celsius, stopping short of the heatwave benchmark. Such weather conditions are likely to continue till Thursday, after which thunderstorms, rainfall, and dust storms are likely to ease temperatures, private weather forecasting agency Skymet said. 

 

A western disturbance acting as an upper air system is moving across the mountains of north India. Another western disturbance, more active than the previous one, will form on Thursday. An induced circulation will form a day earlier, over south Punjab, north Rajasthan and adjoining border areas, the weather agency said. An east-west trough, typical of the pre-monsoon season, will extend from this circulation to southwest Uttar Pradesh and north Madhya Pradesh. This trough will remain in proximity to Delhi between Wednesday and Sunday, the agency said. 

 

These weather systems are likely to cause thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds during the second half of Wednesday, the weather agency said. Thunderstorms and dust storms, along with moderate rainfall, are likely between Thursday and Sunday, with their intensity and spread increasing on Friday and Saturday, the agency said.

 

Delhi recorded the warmest night of the season on Monday, as the minimum temperature rose to 32.4 degrees Celsius, nearly 6 degrees Celsius above normal. Day temperatures are likely to drop from Thursday, bringing relief from heatwave conditions across the city, the weather agency said. Pleasant weather conditions are expected to continue for the remaining days of the month, the agency said.  End
