India's April crude steel output up 4% on year, says World Steel Association

NEW DELHI – India's crude steel production in April rose nearly 4% on year to 13.8 million tonnes, while China's output declined 3% to 83.6 million tonnes, the World Steel Association said in a report. Globally, crude steel output fell 2% on year to 153.4 million tonnes in April.
Though most leading steel producers reported an on-year rise in April, heavyweights such as China and Russia continued to see output decline. In addition, Japan's output rose only 0.3% on year to 6.6 million tonnes.
Among the top 10 steel producers, India, the US, Japan, South Korea, Turkey, Germany, Brazil, and Vietnam reported an on-year rise in output. Steel output in the US rose over 9% on year to 7.2 million tonnes, while Russia's steel production declined over 12% on year to 5.0 million tonnes.
The data reflect crude steel production of 69 countries reporting to the World Steel Association, and accounted for nearly 98% of world crude steel production in 2025.
