NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of most spices rose Thursday on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange. Turmeric prices rose for the third day amid concern over below-normal arrivals in some markets, while weather-related disruptions supported jeera prices, analysts said.

The most-active June contract of TURMERIC was up 1% at INR 16,182 per 100 kilograms. Earlier in the day, the contract hit a nearly two-week high of INR 16,360 and ended in the green for the third session amid improved demand, below-normal arrivals, and concerns about the quality of the crop.

Farmers and stockists have been holding back supplies of turmeric in Sangli, Maharashtra, and Nizamabad, Telangana, as they expect prices to increase to around INR 18,000. In addition, the availability of "Double Polished" export-quality turmeric has declined because of the incidence of rhizome rot in low-lying fields, Kedia Advisory said. "Turmeric futures is predicted to move in a range with firm bias between INR 15,610-1INR 16,410 owing to improved buying interest at current prices," SMC Global Securities said.

The most-active June contract of JEERA was up 0.6% at INR 19,770 per 100 kg amid concern over supply as unfavourable weather conditions in Rajasthan damaged the standing crop at the harvest stage. However, weak export demand and comfortable availability from other states limited the rise. SMC Global Securities sees limited further upside around INR 20,000 and has placed the floor around INR 19,300.

The most-active June contract of CORIANDER was down 1% at INR 12,764 per 100 kg amid comfortable near-term supplies. "The prevailing arrival pressure across key mandis is likely to keep prices range-bound for the time being," SMC Global Securities said, adding that the brokerage sees prices around INR 12,830–INR 12,970.

The brokerage sees limited downside as arrivals have started to decline in Gujarat while Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are witnessing comparatively better arrivals. However, prices are likely to rise if arrivals start to decline across major producing states, it said.

The following were the closing prices of the most active spices contracts on Thursday:
