IMD issues red alert for extreme heat in parts of MP, UP, Vidarbha till Sat

MUMBAI – Severe heatwaves and warm night conditions are very likely to prevail in parts of east Uttar Pradesh, east Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha till Saturday, the India Meteorological Department said, issuing a red alert for this. A red alert for extreme heat is issued when a severe heatwave persists in the region for more than two days. Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely to continue over parts of east Uttar Pradesh and east Madhya Pradesh till Wednesday, and over Vidarbha till Monday, the weather department said.
Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are expected over several parts of northwest and central India, and some parts of east India till Wednesday, the weather bureau said. Heatwaves are also likely over Telangana till Sunday. Warm night conditions are seen over parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi till Friday, the bureau said. Hot and humid weather conditions are expected in pockets of Gangetic West Bengal till Tuesday, in Odisha till Wednesday, and in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from Saturday to Wednesday.
The southwest monsoon onset wave remains in the same position as Wednesday, the weather bureau said. Conditions are favourable for further advancement of the monsoon into more parts of the southeast Arabian Sea, the Comorin Area, the Bay of Bengal, and the remaining parts of the Andaman Sea in the next three to four days, the bureau said.
The presence and movement of the monsoon wave has triggered the formation of multiple weather systems over the country, which is likely to heighten weather activities. Heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Tamil Nadu till Wednesday, over Kerala from Sunday to Wednesday, and over south interior Karnataka from Friday to Monday, the weather department said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 kilometres per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are also expected in parts of Andhra Pradesh till Monday and in Karnataka from Friday to Monday, the department said.
Very heavy rainfall is expected over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Sunday, while heavy rainfall is likely over the regions from Monday to Wednesday, the weather bureau said. Heavy rainfall is also likely over parts of Bihar on Sunday and over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands till Friday. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are likely in many parts of east India till Saturday, the bureau said.
In northeast India, very heavy rainfall is seen over parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya from Saturday to Monday, and heavy rainfall is expected on Friday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, the weather department said. Heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from Saturday to Monday.
Hailstorms along with thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are expected in parts of Jammu and Kashmir till Friday. Dust storms are likely in parts of Punjab till Friday and in west Rajasthan on Friday, the department said. End
