MUMBAI – The iCOMDEX Composite index of the Multi Commodity Exchange of India fell in early trade Thursday after opening higher from Wednesday's close. The index opened higher at 26402.63 points, against Wednesday's close of 26349.42 points. At 1104 IST, the index was down 0.3% at 26271.98 points.

Among the three components of the Composite index, the bullion index was trading 0.6% lower, as gold declined 0.5% and silver 1.1%. However, the bullion index was moving between gains and losses in volatile trade. Bullion prices opened higher Thursday, tracking global prices. Prices rose as concerns about a further rise in inflation eased amid signs of progress in negotiations between the US and Iran. US President Donald Trump said negotiations with Iran were in the "final stages" but warned of further "harder" attacks unless Iran agrees to a peace deal, Al Jazeera reported.

The energy index was up, with crude oil trading 0.6% higher while natural gas was trading 0.4% higher. The base metal index remained volatile, with copper falling 0.2% and aluminium staying flat, while lead and zinc rose 0.8% and 0.3%, respectively.

The MCX iCOMDEX comprises a series of real-time commodity futures price indices and tracks the performance of a basket of commodity futures. It serves as a benchmark for market movements in bullion, base metals, and energy.  End
