Volatile trade weighs on MCX iCOMDEX Composite index Tuesday

MUMBAI – The iCOMDEX Composite index of the Multi Commodity Exchange of India fell in early trade Tuesday after opening flat from Monday's close. The index opened steady at 26575.19 points against Monday's close of 26577.14 points. At 1055 IST, the index was down 0.1% at 26542.98 points.
Among the components of the Composite index, the bullion index was moving between gains and losses in volatile trade. Gold prices on the MCX opened higher Tuesday, tracking global prices. Prices rose as signals of progress in negotiations between the US and Iran eased some fears of further rise in inflation. US President Donald Trump has said he is holding off a military attack on Iran planned for Tuesday at the request of Gulf states as "serious negotiations are now taking place," the BBC reported. In a post on social media platform Truth Social, Trump said he had been asked to do so by the leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, the report said. In the iCOMDEX index, gold was up 0.1% while silver was down 0.7%.
The energy index was steady, with crude oil trading flat and natural gas trading 0.3% lower. On the other hand, the base metal index was down 0.4%, copper down 0.5%, lead down 0.1%, zinc down 0.2%, and aluminium down 0.4%.
The MCX iCOMDEX comprises a series of real-time commodity futures price indices and tracks the performance of a basket of commodity futures. It serves as a benchmark for market movements in bullion, base metals, and energy. End
