MUMBAI – Mustard seed prices fell in Rajasthan's Jaipur due to muted demand at higher levels, but rose in Kota in the state as millers preferred domestic oilseeds over costly imported edible oils, traders said. Soybean prices also rose in Kota due to firm demand for domestic oilseeds, but were steady in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, they said. Groundnut prices were steady in key markets.

 

MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur fell INR 25 per 100 kilograms to INR 7,450-INR 7,475, as demand was muted at higher levels, traders at Marudhar Trading Agency said. Arrivals across the country were at 850,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the same as the previous day, they said.

 

On the other hand, in Kota, mustard seed prices rose INR 100 per 100 kg to INR 7,350 per 100 kg as millers preferred domestic oilseeds over costly imported edible oils, Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader, said. Mustard seed arrivals were at 17,000 bags, up from 16,000 bags the previous day, he said. 

 

There has been a sharp increase in the price of imported edible oil due to the ongoing military conflict in West Asia. Prices of imported edible oils have risen, prompting millers to prefer buying domestic oilseeds for crushing rather than relying on imported finished products, market participants said.  

 

SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam were steady at INR 3,325-INR 6,650 per 100 kg, after rising by INR 400-INR 500 per 100 kg earlier this month, Narendra Porwal, a local trader, said. Arrivals were at 2,500 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), the same as the previous day. Demand was need-based at higher rates, he said.

 

However, soybean prices in Kota increased by INR 200 per 100 kg to INR 7,650 due to firm demand for domestic oilseed, Sameriya said. On Thursday, prices had risen by a whopping INR 750 per 100 kg. Arrivals were at 10,000 bags, the same as the previous day. 

 

GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 3,350-INR 8,350 per 100 kg, traders said. Arrivals were at 3,200 bags (1 bag = 30 kg), the same as the previous day, they said.
