NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of most spices fell on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange on Friday, as limited demand weighed on jeera and turmeric. Coriander contracts extended gains for the third session as lower arrivals in Gujarat supported prices, according to analysts.
The most-active June contract of CORIANDER was up 3.2% at INR 12,972 per 100 kilograms, as lower arrivals in key producer Gujarat supported prices. "While arrivals from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are currently supporting supplies, overall market arrivals are expected to ease gradually in the coming weeks," SMC Global Securities said.
The contract posted a weekly gain, as it has been on a winning streak since Wednesday. The contract had hit a one-month low of INR 12,356 per 100 kg on Wednesday. SMC Global expects coriander futures to remain supported at prevailing levels amid firm domestic demand and dwindling supplies.
The most-active June contract of JEERA was down 1.7% at INR 19,705 per 100 kg, as rising arrivals from key producing regions increased near-term supply pressure in the domestic markets.
"Fresh crop arrivals from Rajasthan accelerated after favourable weather conditions enabled farmers to complete harvesting activities faster than expected, resulting in a sharp supply inflow instead of the previously anticipated staggered arrivals," Kedia Advisory said. Jeera may trade between INR 19,690 and INR 20,390, owing to limited buying and rising arrivals, SMC Global said.
The most-active June contract of TURMERIC was down 0.4% at INR 15,900 per 100 kg amid limited demand in domestic and overseas markets. "Turmeric may float rangebound between INR 15,570-16,370 band due to constant arrival pressure amidst need-based buying," SMC Global said.
