MUMBAI – India's soymeal exports are estimated to have fallen to 50,000 tonnes in April from 214,000 tonnes a year ago, according to the Soybean Processors Association of India. Soymeal production in April is seen at 631,000 tonnes, down from 750,000 tonnes a year ago.

In Oct-Apr, India's soymeal production is estimated to have fallen to 5.13 million tonnes from 5.52 million tonnes a year ago. Exports of soymeal during the same period is estimated to be 822,000 tonnes, down from 1.33 million tonnes a year ago.

Meanwhile, soybean arrivals in April are seen at 450,000 tonnes, down from 550,000 tonnes a year ago. In Oct-Apr, soybean arrivals were seen lower at 6.75 million tonnes from 7.75 million tonnes a year ago.

In April, soybean crushing was at 800,000 tonnes, down from 950,000 tonnes a year ago, as per SOPA estimates. Soybean stocks in April were at 4.38 million tonnes.

For the oilseeds year 2025-26 (Oct-Sept), India's soybean production is estimated at 11.0 million tonnes. In 2024-25, soybean output was 12.9 million tonnes, according to data from SOPA.

The association has retained the soymeal export projection for oil year 2025-26 at 1.0 million tonnes. Soybean crushing for the year is projected at 10.2 million tonnes, it said. The association has estimated the domestic consumption of soymeal for feed at 6.2 million tonnes.

Soybean is crushed to extract soyoil and the by-product, soymeal, primarily used as poultry and livestock feed. Indian soymeal is not genetically modified and is rich in protein, making it attractive in global feed markets. However, competition from cheaper alternatives such as distiller's dried grains with solubles have weighed on exports. India is among the largest importers of soyoil and an exporter of soymeal.  End
