MCX iCOMDEX Composite index trades lower amid US-China talks in Beijing

MUMBAI – The Multi Commodity Exchange's iCOMDEX Composite index traded lower in early hours Friday due to a fall in bullion and base metal prices. The Composite index had opened at 26979.73 points, down from 26994.97 points at close Thursday. At 1124 IST, it traded further lower at 26421.14 points.
Among the Composite's constituents, bullion was 2.68% down, as gold declined 1.76% and silver 5.79%.
Bullion prices were down in early trade amid the beginning of the 2-day summit between the US President Donald Trump and the Chinese President Xi Jinping. Market is hoping for an outcome of the summit that may help resolve the US-Iran war.
The base metal index was down 1.72%. All the four sub-indices also traded lower, with aluminium down 1.35% and copper down 2.50%. Lead was down 0.59% and zinc down 1.44%.
The energy index of the Composite was, however, up and traded 1.81% higher from its previous close. Crude oil was up 1.89% while natural gas was 0.74% higher.
The MCX iCOMDEX comprises a series of real-time commodity futures price indices and tracks the performance of a basket of commodity futures. It serves as a benchmark for market movements in bullion, base metals, and energy. End
