India Apr gems, jewellery exports down 9% on year to $2.23 bln

MUMBAI – India's gross exports of gems and jewellery declined by over 9% on year to $2.23 billion in April, while overall imports fell nearly 10% to $1.84 billion, according to data from the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council. 

 

The overall exports of cut and polished diamonds fell nearly 20% on year to $890.91 million in April, while imports surged nearly fourfold on year to $222.02 million, the data showed.

 

The country's overall imports of rough diamonds declined by over 29% on year to $847.67 million in April, the data showed. Exports of polished lab-grown diamonds during the month fell nearly 16% on year to $93.28 million.

 

Gross exports of gold jewellery in April declined nearly 22% on year to $841.54 million, the data showed. Silver jewellery exports in April jumped over five times on year to $268.38 million. The country's exports of platinum jewellery in April rose more than 90% on year to $22.10 million.  End
