NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of most spices rose on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange on Thursday. Turmeric prices rose slightly amid below-normal arrivals in some markets, and coriander inched a tad higher as buying interest remained steady.

The most-active June contract of TURMERIC was up 0.5% at INR 15,980 per 100 kg. Prices rose slightly as arrivals in key mandis across Maharashtra and Telangana remain below normal for the peak arrival season. However, SMC Global said weak export demand is likely to weigh on prices. "Fundamentals seem bearish owing to subdued buying as ongoing geopolitical tensions are expected to weigh on export demand in the near term," SMC Global Securities said.

The most-active June contract of CORIANDER was up 0.3% at INR 12,560 per 100 kg, amid steady demand and declining arrivals in Gujarat. Although arrivals in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are currently progressing well, SMC Global Securities said they are likely to dwindle soon.

The most-active June contract of JEERA was down 0.7% at INR 20,025 per 100 kilograms amid arrival pressure. However, expectations of improved export demand from China and limited supplies of better-quality arrivals limited the fall in prices. The incidence of crop damage due to thunderstorms and hailstorms in Rajasthan has raised concerns about the availability of premium "A-grade" quality of jeera.
