MUMBAI – Mustard seed prices rose in Rajasthan's Jaipur due to firm demand from millers amid a rise in imported edible oil prices, traders said. Soybean prices also rose in the state's Kota on firm demand for domestic oilseed. Groundnut prices were steady in key spot markets, they said.

 

MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur rose INR 75 per 100 kilograms to INR 7,475-INR 7,500, as there was good demand for domestic oilseeds, traders at Marudhar Trading Agency said. Arrivals across the country were at 850,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down from 900,000 bags the previous day, they said. There has been a sharp increase in the price of imported edible oil due to the ongoing military conflict in West Asia. Prices of imported edible oils have risen, prompting millers to prefer buying domestic oilseed for crushing rather than relying on imported finished products, market participants said.  

 

In Kota, mustard seed prices were steady at INR 7,251 per 100 kg. Prices had risen by about INR 250 per 100 kg earlier this week due to firm demand stemming from higher imported soft oil prices, Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader, said. Mustard seed arrivals were at 16,000 bags in the market, he said. 

 

SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh were steady at INR 3,325-INR 6,650 per 100 kg, after rising by INR 400-INR 500 per 100 kg earlier this month, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals were at 2,500 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), the same as the previous day. Demand was need-based at higher rates, he said.

 

However, soybean prices in Kota increased by a whopping INR 750 per 100 kg to INR 7,450 due to firm demand for domestic oilseed, Sameriya said. Prices also rose as arrivals were lower, he said. Arrivals were at 10,000 bags, down from 12,000 bags the previous day. 

 

GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 3,350-INR 8,350 per 100 kg, traders said. Arrivals were at 3,200 bags (1 bag = 30 kg), the same as the previous day, they said.
