NEW DELHI – Air India has rationalised flight operations on select international routes between June and August, suspending flights on some sectors, curtailing them on others, and even increasing flights on a few, it announced in a press release Wednesday. A combination of factors, including continued airspace restrictions over certain regions and record high jet fuel prices for international operations, has prompted the changes, the airline said.
The airline has suspended its flights on the New Delhi-Chicago route as well as on the Delhi-Newark and Mumbai-New York John F. Kennedy Airport routes. It has also suspended operations till August on the Delhi-Shanghai, Chennai-Singapore, Mumbai-Dhaka and Delhi-Male routes, according to the press release.

Operations on the Delhi-Vancouver route have been reduced to five times a week from seven times a week. However, operations on the Mumbai-Newark route have been increased to seven times a week from three times, whereas the frequency on the Delhi-New York JFK sector remains unchanged at seven times a week.
Flights on the Delhi-Paris route are being reduced to seven a week from 14. On the Delhi-Copenhagen, Delhi-Vienna, Delhi-Zurich, and Delhi-Rome routes, the airline is curtailing operations to three a week from four. The airline is also reducing flights between Delhi and Milan to four a week from five.
On the Delhi-Melbourne and Delhi-Sydney routes, the airline has reduced operations to four times a week from seven. On the Delhi-Singapore route, Air India will fly 14 times a week in Jun-Aug from 24 times a week currently. Its flights on the Mumbai-Singapore are being halved to seven a week. On the Delhi-Bangkok sector, the airline will operate 21 times a week from July against 28 times at present. At the same time, flights on the Mumbai-Bangkok sector will also be reduced to seven a week from 13, it said in the release.
Between Delhi and Kuala Lumpur, the airline is cutting operations to five times a week from 10. Operations between Delhi and Ho Chi Minh City are being reduced to four times a week in July and August from seven times a week currently. Likewise, operations on the Delhi-Hanoi sector will be reduced to four times a week in July and August from five times a week currently.
Flights between Delhi and Kathmandu are being curtailed to 28 times a week in June from 42 times a week, and will be reduced further in July and August to 21 times a week. On the Delhi-Dhaka and Mumbai-Colombo routes, operations have been reduced to four times a week from seven. On the Delhi-Colombo route, the airline has reduced operations to 12 times a week from 14.
"Air India will proactively assist customers with bookings affected by the cancellations through this period with re-accommodation on alternative feasible Air India flights, free date change or full refunds, as applicable. The airline remains available to support guests through its 24x7 contact centre and digital channels," it said in the release.
The airline further said it continues to work closely with regulators, airport authorities, and industry partners to restore full capacity as soon as conditions permit, but may make further adjustments to its network should the current extraordinary operating environment prevail. End
