NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of most spices fell on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange on Tuesday. Turmeric contracts fell for the third session as demand remained weak across spot markets, while coriander prices declined slightly amid improved arrivals in some markets.

The most active June contract of TURMERIC was down nearly 1% at INR 15,912 per 100 kilograms. The contract extended its losses for the third session amid weak spot prices and subdued export demand. "In the key spot markets where Bilty (turmeric variety) prices are floating below INR 14,000-INR 14,500 per 100 kg amidst higher arrivals," SMC Global said.

The most active June contract of CORIANDER was down nearly 1% to INR 12,484 per 100 kg amid improved arrivals in key markets in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. However, SMC Global expect the contract to trade higher in the coming days as arrivals have started to decline in Gujarat. Going ahead, the brokerage expects the contract to trade around INR 12,540–INR 12,680 per 100 kg.

The most-active June contract of JEERA was up 0.2% to INR 19,970 per 100 kg. The contract closed a tad higher on Tuesday, after hitting a fresh six-month low of INR 19,810 per 100 kg. SMC Global Securities expects the contract to trade on "a weak note" in the INR 19,590-INR 20,290 range due to lower buying appetite amid rising arrivals. Jeeara arrivals increased 25% to 84,930 tonnes in April, as favourable weather conditions across northwest India allowed farmers to complete harvesting faster than expected.
