MUMBAI – The production of groundnuts in Gujarat under summer crop is likely to be 127,092 tonnes in 2026, up 25% on year, according to the Indian Oilseeds and Produce Export Promotion Council. The acreage under groundnut is seen rising 20% on year to 70,372 hectares, it said in a release.

In Gujarat, Banaskantha district is expected to lead both in groundnut acreage and crop. Its acreage is estimated at 32,110 hectares and production is seen at 55,422 tonnes. Kutch district topped in terms of yields with a figure of 1,958 kilogram per hectare, Indian Oilseeds and Produce Export Promotion Council said.

These estimates are based on a survey conducted by RMSI Cropalytics Pvt. Ltd.

Indian Oilseeds and Produce Export Promotion Council is a body under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry. It had organised a one-day Capacity Building Programme and Trade Meet (Summer Crop) at Rajkot, Gujarat, Saturday in association with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, where it released the survey findings.

The survey also covered sesame acreage and production. Area under sesame is estimated at 144,493 hectares in Gujarat, 16% higher than last year, while production is seen 31% higher at 168,162 tonnes. In terms of acreage as well as production, Junagadh district tops the list, the release said. Its output is likely to be 28,748 tonnes and acreage 25,668 hectares. Morbi district tops the yield at 1,226 kg per hectare.

Additionally, the survey covered sesame in Maharashtra. The acreage of sesame in Maharashtra is likely to decline 2% on year at 24,581 hectares, while production is seen at 19,246 tonnes. The production figure for the earlier year was not available.

"Summer Sesame acreage is highest in Yavatmal with an area of 10,285 hectares. Similarly, in terms of production also Yavatmal tops the list with a contribution of 8,125 tonnes," the release said. Wardha topped the yield list having an overall yield of 800 kg per hectare.  End
