MUMBAI – Malaysia's crude palm oil production rose over 18% on month to 1.63 million tonnes in April, according to preliminary data released by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board. The country's April-end palm oil stocks also rose month-on-month in April, though exports fell, the data showed. Malaysia's total palm oil stocks rose 1.7% on month to 2.31 million tonnes in April, while exports fell more than 14% on month to 1.30 million tonnes, according to the data.
A Reuters survey had forecast inventories at 2.25 million tonnes, with output seen at 1.62 million tonnes and exports at 1.35 million tonnes in April. Malaysia is the world's second-largest producer of crude palm oil and India is the largest consumer of edible oils.
At 1106 IST, the most-active July contract of crude palm oil on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives exchange was at 4,551 ringgits or INR 110,373.04 per tonne, up 1% from the previous close.
Malaysia imported 75,846 tonnes of processed palm oil, up 13.5% on month, the data showed. The country's imports of palm kernel oil also rose over 29% from the previous month to 11,103 tonnes, according to the data.
