Centre extends tur, chana procurement deadlines for Maharashtra

MUMBAI – The Centre has extended the procurement period for tur and chana in Maharashtra for the 2025-26 kharif season, the Press Trust of India reported. It has also increased the procurement target of chana in the state, it said, quoting the state's marketing minister Jaykumar Rawal.
The deadline for tur procurement has been extended till May 31, and for chana till May 29, following a request from the state government. The chana procurement target has been raised by 58,632 tonnes to 8,19,882 tonnes, it said.
The decision was taken by Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan after considering the state's demand, Rawal said.
Informist had reported Tuesday that member of the Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra Dhananjay Munde had written to Rawal to extend the deadline for chana procurement in the state till May 15. This came after procurement in the state was halted prematurely due to closure of the procurement portal earlier than advised by the Centre and the state government, Munde said in the letter to Rawal last week.
