MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall over parts of Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday, and over the weekend. This is likely under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation that lies over central Assam and its neighbouring regions at the lower tropospheric level.

 

Heavy rainfall is also likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe during the next seven days till Friday, the department said, attributing this to an upper air cyclonic circulation that lies over southeast Arabian Sea and the adjoining Lakshadweep area off the south Kerala coast at lower tropospheric levels. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 40–60 kilometres per hour, along with heavy rainfall, are expected in parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal in the next six-seven days, it said.

 

A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from Sunday, the department said. Moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are likely in Uttarakhand, Haryana Chandigarh and Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and east Rajasthan on Thursday.

 

Meanwhile, heatwave conditions are likely in parts of Gujarat state and west Rajasthan from Saturday till Wednesday, the department said. Hot and humid weather conditions are very likely to prevail in pockets of Konkan and Goa till Saturday, it said. 

 

A gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 3–4 degrees Celsius is likely in northwest India till Sunday and no significant change will be seen from Monday to Wednesday, the bureau said. No significant change in maximum temperatures is likely in central India on Friday and a gradual rise of 2–4 degrees Celsius is expected thereafter, it said. 

 

A gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 3–5 degrees Celsius is likely in northeast India till Friday and no significant change in the maximum temperatures is expected from Sunday to Wednesday, it said.  End
