India March tea production down 1.5% on year at 66.86 mln kg, says Tea Board

MUMBAI – India's tea production fell 1.5% on year to 66.86 million kilograms in March, according to provisional data released by the Tea Board India. The country had produced 67.85 million kg of tea a year ago.

 

The north Indian region produced 49.05 million kg of tea in March, down from 52.08 million kg a year ago, while the southern region contributed 17.81 million kg, up from 15.77 million kg on year.

 

In north India, tea output from Assam fell to 17.38 million kg from 28.61 million kg a year earlier. Output in the Assam Valley fell to 16.77 million kg from 27.75 million kg a year ago. Production in West Bengal rose to 29.96 million kg from 21.81 million kg a year ago.

 

In south India, Tamil Nadu reported tea production of 12.85 million kg, up from 11.06 million kg the previous year.

 

The Tea Board is yet to release the full year data for the financial year 2025-26 (Apr–Mar).  End
