MUMBAI – Cyclonic circulation in some parts of the country, along with an east-west trough running in some other parts, are likely to result in fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall as well as thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds over northeast India during Sunday to Thursday, the India Meteorological Department said in a release. A similar situation is also likely over West Bengal and Sikkim during these five days.

 

An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over north Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal in lower tropospheric levels with a trough aloft in middle to upper tropospheric levels, it observed.

 

Moreover, an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over west Rajasthan and neighbourhood and a north-south trough runs from this cyclonic circulation to Comorian area in lower tropospheric levels. An east-west trough runs from northeast Madhya Pradesh to Manipur in lower tropospheric levels.

 

Under the influence of these factors, isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds are likely over Jharkhand, Bihar and Odisha in the next seven days to Saturday, the weather bureau said.

 

The Met department has predicted isolated heavy rainfall over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during Saturday to Monday, and over Bihar on Monday. Isolated very heavy showers over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are also seen Saturday.

 

Jammu-Kashmir region is likely to witness scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall and snowfall with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds between Saturday and Wednesday, with a similar condition over Himachal Pradesh during Sunday to Tuesday, and over Uttarakhand during Saturday to Friday, the release said.

 

The bureau has also predicted isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds over Rajasthan during Saturday to Friday, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds over Punjab during Sunday to Wednesday, and over Haryana and Chandigarh between Saturday and Wednesday.

 

Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds are likely over northeast India during the next 5 days, it said.

 

On Friday, the weather department had said maximum temperatures are likely to be normal-to-below-normal in most parts of the country in May. Minimum temperatures and rainfall during the month are expected to be above normal, while above-normal heatwave days are likely in a few parts of the country, the department had said.  End
