NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of jeera rose Wednesday on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange as a temporary tightness in supply triggered increased buying interest at lower price levels. Coriander contracts declined, while turmeric ended flat for the second consecutive session.

The most active May contract of JEERA was up nearly 2% at INR 20,670 per 100 kg amid a temporary tightness in supply. "Unseasonal rains across northwest India delayed drying and processing, creating a "temporary supply gap and supporting prices despite otherwise ample availability," Kedia Advisory said in a note.

Prices also rose amid increased buying interest at lower levels after the contract hit an over five-month low of INR 19,965 per 100 kg on Monday. Concerns of limited availability of export-grade qualities in Rajasthan are also supporting prices, Kedia Advisory added.

"Immediate support is seen at INR 20,090, with a break below likely to test INR 19,870 levels. On the upside, resistance is placed at INR 20,450, and a move above could push prices towards INR 20,590 levels," Kedia said.

The most active May contract of CORIANDER was down nearly 2% at INR 12,830 per 100 kg amid weak demand at higher price levels. Despite tight supplies, demand for coriander has softened after the contract hit a record high of INR 13,798 on Wednesday. However, limited supply and firm demand in markets are likely to ensure buying interest at price corrections.

The most active May contract of TURMERIC was flat at INR 16,000 per 100 kg. The contract is likely to trade between INR 15,620 and INR 16,420 in the near term, "awaiting a directional breakout," SMC Global Securities said.

Since Monday, the contract has been ending largely flat amid increased arrivals and underlying supply tightness and quality concerns. "Arrivals in parts of Maharashtra and Telangana are still below normal for the peak season, while issues like rhizome rot have reduced the availability of premium "Double Polished" varieties," Kedia Advisory said.
