MUMBAI – The Telangana government has approved the procurement of 1.5 million tonnes of maize at the minimum support price of INR 2,400 per 100 kg, according to a release by the state's agriculture and cooperation department on Tuesday. The state has appointed the Telangana Cooperative Marketing Federation Ltd. as the state nodal agency to carry out the procurement, the release said.

Telangana is the fifth-largest producer of maize in the country. The amount approved for procurement is more than 50% of the estimated rabi maize production in the state, which is 2.87 million tonnes, and over one-third of the total maize output projected for 2025-26 (Jul-Jun), which is 4.22 million tonnes, according to the second advance estimates.

The state will spend INR 41.73 billion on procuring the coarse grain at the minimum support price, the release said. The state government has also agreed to provide necessary guarantees to assist the Telangana Cooperative Marketing Federation to raise the required funds. "The state government shall reimburse losses incurred by the TG MARKFED (Telangana Cooperative Marketing Federation) on account of procurement of maize (fair average quality) under MSP (minimum support price) during Yasangi (rabi) 2025-26 season," it said.  End
