Global alumina production up 7% on month in March, says aluminium institute

MUMBAI – Global alumina production rose 7% on month to 12.65 million tonnes in March, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. However, alumina production declined 1% on year from 12.78 million tonnes in March 2025. 

 

The average daily global alumina production fell to 408,000 tonnes in March from the revised 422,300 tonnes in February, as per the data. Alumina production in China rose to 7.53 million tonnes in March from 7.05 million tonnes in February. The country's output, which accounts for 60% of global alumina production, was down over 2% from a year ago, the data showed.

 

In the Oceania region, alumina output rose nearly 1% on month to 1.36 million tonnes in March. In Africa and Asia, excluding China, alumina production rose over 8% on month to 1.30 million tonnes. In Europe, including Russia, production rose 16% on month to 611,000 tonnes in March, and the output in South America rose 9% on month to 1.06 million tonnes, the data showed.

 

According to the International Aluminium Institute, global production of primary aluminium was up over 10% on month at 6.30 million tonnes in March. At 1816 IST, the most active May aluminium contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was up 0.7% at INR 376.45 per kg. End
