NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of all spices trading on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange closed lower on Monday. Jeera prices fell as arrivals increased amid aggressive offloading by farmers, while coriander continued to decline due to weak demand at higher price levels, according to analysts.

The most active May contract of JEERA was down 3.6% at INR 20,100 per 100 kg, as rising arrivals due to aggressive farmer selling created a near-term supply glut. "Fresh crop inflows from Rajasthan and faster harvesting due to favorable weather conditions further intensified supply pressure, while farmers continued offloading stocks to generate liquidity ahead of the Kharif sowing season," Kedia Advisory said.

However, unseasonal rains and hailstorms impacted the crop quality in Rajasthan, which is likely to support the prices of premium-quality arrivals, it added.

The most active May contract of CORIANDER was down 1.4% at INR 13,040 per 100 kg as demand weakened at higher price levels. The contract had been trading lower since hitting a record high of INR 13,798 on Wednesday amid tight supplies and firm demand.

However, fundamentals remain strong with supplies down 29% on year at 12,151 tonnes, underpinning prices and sustaining a bullish undertone, SMC Global Securities said in a note. "In the near term, the market is expected to stay well-supported, driven by continued buying interest and ongoing inventory restocking by traders," it added.

The most active May contract of TURMERIC was down 2.5% at INR 16,012 per 100 kg, amid rising supplies and subdued export demand. Supplies across markets have witnessed a sharp rise of 84% on year to 23,461 tonnes, highlighting persistent supply-side pressure across key mandis, SMC Global Securities said.
