India's import of chana, masur, yellow pea dn on yr in Apr-Feb; urad, tur up

MUMBAI – India imported lower quantities of chana, masur and yellow pea in the first eleven months of 2025-26 (Apr–Mar) from a year earlier, but increased the quantity of urad and tur import, according to data from the commerce ministry furnished by the India Pulses and Grains Association.
According to the data, India imported 814,447 tonnes chana between April and February, down from 1.24 million tonnes imported a year ago. India imported 647,744 tonnes chana from Australia and 162,237 tonnes from Tanzania in the Apr-Feb period. It also imported smaller quantities from some other countries, including Myanmar.
According to data, India's masur import in the first eleven months of 2025-26 was 975,760 tonnes, down from 1.05 million tonnes in the similar period the previous year. Imports were mainly from Australia at 481,020 tonnes and Canada at 453,963 tonnes. Other countries that sold masur to India included Russia and the US.
Import of yellow pea dropped a huge 50% to 1.06 million tonnes in the latest period from 2.11 million tonnes a year ago. Of this, 822,628 tonnes were sourced from Canada and 190,491 tonnes from Russia, per the data. India also sourced some quantity of the legume from Argentina and Latvia, among others.
India also imported 972,637 tonnes of urad in the said period, up from 745,043 tonnes imported a year earlier. Among the major suppliers were Myanmar at 723,785 tonnes and Brazil with 225,104 tonnes. Some quantity was also imported from Thailand and others.
India's tur imports were at 1.40 million tonnes in Apr-Feb, up from 1.19 million tonnes a year ago. It imported 566,090 tonnes of tur from Mozambique, 346,802 tonnes from Tanzania, and 333,300 tonnes from Myanmar, besides smaller quantities from Malawi and other countries. End
