MUMBAI – The Multi Commodity Exchange of India's iCOMDEX Composite index opened down Thursday, dragged by a fall in bullion and base metals components even as energy index was up. The growing day-to-day uncertainty about the war in West Asian region affected markets, observers said.

At 0950 IST, the MCX iCOMDEX was 24758.12 points, down 0.3% from its previous close. It had opened at 24817.46 points.

Among the components, the bullion index was 36544.80, down 0.7%, with gold sub-index down 0.4% and silver down 1.8%. The base metals index was 22953.63, down 0.3%. Among its sub-indices, aluminium and copper were down 0.3% and 0.4%, respectively. Zinc too was down 0.1% though lead was up 0.2%.

The energy component of the Composite index, at 8357.20, was up 2.0%, with crude oil up at 2.2% and natural gas up nearly 0.1%.

The iCOMDEX comprises a series of real-time commodity futures price indices and tracks the performance of a basket of commodity futures. It serves as a benchmark for market movements in bullion, base metals, and energy.  End
