MUMBAI – Mustard prices rose Tuesday in Rajasthan's Kota market due to demand for high-quality seed, traders said. However, prices of other edible oil seeds were steady from the previous day due to lack of fresh cues, they said.
MUSTARD seed prices rose in Kota by INR 151 to INR 6,801 per 100 kilograms as there was demand for good quality seed amid the ongoing arrivals season, Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader, said. Sameriya said traders are buying mustard at these prices to process the seed into oil and take advantage of the current firm edible oil prices globally due to ongoing military conflict in West Asia.
Sameriya expects prices to rise by INR 200 per 100 kilograms in a week. Prices are expected to rise to INR 7,200 per 100 kilograms by August after the peak arrival season tracking firm global prices, the trader said. The arrivals in Kota were 20,000 million bags (1 bag = 50 kg).
Prices of mustard seed were steady in Jaipur in Rajasthan at INR 7,125-INR 7,150 per 100 kilograms after falling by INR 25 in the previous day, traders at Marudhar Trading Agency said. Arrivals rose to 950,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) from 800,000 bags the previous day, they said.
Meanwhile, soybean and groundnut prices were steady in key spot markets, traders said. GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at INR 3,250-INR 8,100 per 100 kg, traders said.
SOYBEAN prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 2,825-INR 5,850 per 100 kg, Narendra Porwal, a local trader, said. Prices in Kota were steady at INR 5,700 per 100 kg, Sameriya said. The soybean arrivals in Kota were at 12,000 bags (1 bag = 40 kg).
