MUMBAI – Gold prices opened slightly higher in the spot market Tuesday on hopes of the peace talks between the US and Iran resuming ahead of the end of the two-week ceasefire in West Asia, traders said. In Mumbai, gold of 99.9% purity opened at INR 152,155 per 10 grams, up marginally from Monday's closing price of INR 152,096 per 10 grams.
The US delegation led by Vice-President J.D. Vance is set to travel to Pakistan Tuesday if Iran agrees to a second round of peace talks ahead of the expiry of the ceasefire Thursday morning Indian time, reports said. According to media reports, Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf is expected to attend the talks with the US.
However, market participants remain cautious about the outcome of the meeting even if it were to take place, Nitin Kedia, national general secretary of the All-India Jewellers & Goldsmith Federation, said.
Meanwhile, "physical demand trends remain mixed. In India, buying during Akshaya Tritiya was relatively muted owing to record-high prices, although investment demand showed some improvement," Kedia Advisory said in a note. End
