MCX iCOMDEX Composite index slips after opening up as bullion prices fall

MUMBAI – The Multi Commodity Exchange of India's iCOMDEX Composite index opened marginally higher Monday, but soon fell as the bullion index slipped deeper into the negative zone. However, the iCOMDEX was supported by base metal and energy indices which were up.
After opening at 24682.90 points, up marginally from Friday's close of 24679.98 points, iCOMDEX slipped and was 24646.57 points at 0933 IST. The bullion index was down 1.3%, with gold index down 1.1% and silver index down 1.9%.
However, the energy index was up nearly 6%, as the crude oil index was up a little more than 6% and natural gas index was up nearly 2%.
The base metal index was marginally up, supported by rise in aluminium and zinc, although copper remained in the negative territory. Lead opened higher but soon moved down from the previous close.
The iCOMDEX comprises a series of real-time commodity futures price indices and tracks the performance of a basket of commodity futures. It serves as a benchmark for market movements in bullion, base metals, and energy. End
