Pre-monsoon activities to cool down temperature in Gujarat Sun-Thu, says Skymet

MUMBAI – Pre-monsoon heat has peaked across Gujarat, with maximum temperatures reaching nearly 45 degrees Celsius in the past few days, according to private weather forecasting agency Skymet. However, conditions are building up for rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning over Gujarat between Sunday and Thursday, which is expected to cool down most parts of the state, the weather agency said.
A cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over southeast Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan and Gujarat on Sunday, while an anticyclone is marked over the northeast Arabian Sea, pushing moist winds along the Konkan and Gujarat coast, the weather agency said. Another seasonal feature, a north-south wind discontinuity, will run from central Maharashtra to Kerala, with an embedded circulation close to south coastal and central Gujarat. A combination of these weather systems is likely to cause thunderstorms across the state.
However, these pre-monsoon activities will not occur simultaneously across the state. Thunderstorms are expected to begin over Saurashtra on Sunday, covering Kandla, Bhavnagar, Mahuva, Veraval, Amreli, and Junagadh, extending up to Ahmedabad. On Monday and Tuesday, the rain belt is likely to spread to cover south coastal Gujarat and the interior of central Gujarat, the weather agency said.
On Wednesday, the scale of pre-monsoon activities will increase further, reaching north Gujarat and the remaining parts of Saurashtra. Kutch and some extreme parts of north Gujarat are expected to remain the least affected during this period, the weather agency said.
