MUMBAI – Mustard seed prices fell in key markets of India as arrivals are substantial, but demand is limited, traders said. However, soybean prices rose in Kota, Rajasthan, as demand from millers improved, but were steady in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh. Prices of groundnut were steady in key markets.
Mustard seed prices fell in Jaipur, Rajasthan, by INR 125 to INR 7,125-INR 7,150 per 100 kilograms because of higher arrivals amid limited demand, traders at Marudhar Trading Agency said. Mustard seed arrivals across the country were 1.1 million bags (1 bag = 50 kg). However, prices could rise in the coming days on the back of improved demand for the domestic oilseed amid higher prices for imported edible oil, traders said.
Mustard seed prices fell INR 350 in Kota to INR 6,650 per 100 kg due to subdued demand, Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader, said. Arrivals in Kota were 22,000 bags, down 2,000 bags from Monday. Prices of substitutes for mustard, such as canola, were cheaper, hence demand for mustard seed fell, Sameriya said. Most markets across the country were shut on Tuesday on account of Ambedkar Jayanti.
SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam were steady at INR 2,825-INR 5,850 per 100 kg, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals in the market were 2,500 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), the same as Monday. Soybean prices rose by INR 100 in Kota at INR 5,700 per 100 kg, as demand from millers improved, said Sameriya. Arrivals in Kota were 11,000 bags, up 1,000 bags from Monday.
GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 3,250-INR 8,100 per 100 kg. Arrivals were 3,500 bags (1 bag = 30 kg), the same as the previous day.
