MUMBAI - Heatwave conditions are expected over parts of east Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and north interior Karnataka till Sunday, over parts of Chhattisgarh and Telangana from Thursday to Sunday, and over west Madhya Pradesh and Odisha from Friday to Sunday, the India Meteorological Department said. Similar weather conditions are likely over parts of central Maharashtra till Saturday, and over Andhra Pradesh on Thursday and Friday, the weather department said.

 

Hot and humid weather conditions are likely over parts of Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha till Tuesday, over parts of coastal Maharashtra and coastal Andhra Pradesh till Friday, and parts of coastal Gujarat till Thursday, the weather bureau said. Similar weather is expected over parts of Tamil Nadu, coastal Karnataka, and Kerala till Friday, and over Andhra Pradesh on Thursday and Sunday, the bureau said.

 

Maximum temperatures in northwest India are expected to gradually rise by 3–4 degrees Celsius till Saturday, while those in central India are expected to rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius till Monday, the weather department said. In northeast India, maximum temperatures are expected to rise by 2–3 degrees from Friday to Tuesday, the department said.

 

In Maharashtra and Gujarat, maximum temperatures are expected to gradually fall by 2–3 degrees Celsius from Sunday to Tuesday, the weather bureau said. No significant change in maximum temperatures is expected over the rest of the country, the bureau said.

 

An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over north Bangladesh, with a trough running in the westerlies, the weather department said. An east-west trough runs from northwest Bihar to Manipur across Gangetic West Bengal and Assam, the department said. These weather systems are expected to lead to heavy rainfall over parts of Arunachal Pradesh during the weekend, over Assam and Meghalaya on Friday and Saturday, and over Nagaland on Saturday, it said.

 

These weather systems are also expected to cause light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over many parts of northeast India till Sunday, the weather bureau said. Similar weather is expected over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Sunday, over Gangetic West Bengal on Friday, and over Odisha till Monday. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are expected over Gangetic West Bengal on Thursday.

 

Under the influence of a western disturbance acting as a cyclonic circulation over the Mediterranean Sea, light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is likely over most parts of northwest India till Sunday, the weather bureau said. Hailstorms are also expected over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on Friday.

 

A north-south trough runs from southeast Madhya Pradesh to the Comorin area across Vidarbha, Marathwada, while a cyclonic circulation lies over north interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the weather bureau said. An anti-cyclonic circulation lies over Karnataka and adjoining Maharashtra, the bureau said. These weather systems are expected to cause a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over parts of Karnataka from Thursday to Sunday and over coastal Andhra Pradesh on Friday and Saturday, it said. Similar weather is expected over parts of central Maharashtra from Saturday to Tuesday, it said.  End
