MUMBAI – India's soymeal exports are estimated to have fallen to 60,000 tonnes in March, down almost 63% from 162,000 tonnes a year ago, according to The Soybean Processors Association of India. The country's soymeal production in March is seen at 750,000 tonnes, up from 710,000 tonnes a year ago.
In Oct-Mar, India's soymeal production is estimated to have fallen to 4.50 million tonnes from 4.77 million tonnes a year ago. Exports of soymeal during the same period are estimated at 772,000 tonnes, down from 1.11 million tonnes a year ago.
Soybean arrivals across markets in March are seen at 600,000 tonnes, same as a year ago. In Oct-Mar, soybean arrivals are seen lower at 6.3 million tonnes from 7.2 million tonnes a year ago.
In March, soybean crushing was at 950,000 tonnes, up from 900,000 tonnes a year ago, as per SOPA estimates. Soybean stocks in March were at 5.11 million tonnes. Soybean crushing during Oct-Mar is seen at 5.7 million tonnes, down from 6.05 million tonnes same period last year. The association has projected soybean output for the oilseed year 2025-26 (Oct-Sept) at 11.0 million tonnes.
Soybean is crushed to extract soyoil and the by-product, soymeal, is primarily used as poultry and livestock feed. Indian soymeal is not genetically modified and is rich in protein, making it attractive in global feed markets. However, competition from cheaper alternatives such as distiller's dried grains with solubles have affected exports. India is among the largest importers of soyoil and an exporter of soymeal. End
