India Mar gems, jewellery exports down 35% on yr at $1.78 bln; Apr-Mar dn 3%

MUMBAI – India's overall gross exports of gems and jewellery fell more than 35% on year to $1.78 billion in March, while imports rose nearly 17% on year to $2.31 billion during the month, according to data from the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council. The country's gross exports of gems and jewellery in 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) fell over 3% on year to $27.72 billion, while imports during the same period rose 17% to $22.83 billion, the data showed.
In March, the overall gross exports of cut and polished diamonds fell more than 27% on year to $838.75 million, but its imports surged over 312% from last year to $210.58 million. In Apr-Mar, exports of cut and polished diamonds were down nearly 9% on year at $12.16 billion, while imports during the same period were $1.55 billion, up over 28% from the previous year, according to the data.
India's overall gross imports of rough diamonds during Apr-Mar declined nearly 3% on year to $10.48 billion, the data showed. Exports of polished lab-ground diamonds in March fell nearly 28% from last year to $95.52 million, while in Apr-Mar, it was down nearly 11% at $1.13 billion.
The country's gross exports of gold jewellery in March were down more than 48% at $655.92 million, while in Apr-Mar, it fell marginally to $11.36 billion from $11.37 billion in the same period last year. Silver jewellery exports in Apr-Mar rose over 52% on year to $1.47 billion, according to the data. The country's exports of platinum jewellery during Apr-Mar were up more than 39% from the previous year at $254.60 million. End
