MUMBAI – Mustard seed prices rose in the Jaipur market despite higher arrivals as demand was firm, but prices were steady in Kota, traders said. Soybean and groundnut prices were steady in key markets of the country, they said.

MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, rose INR 25 to 7,275-INR 7,300 per 100 kilograms despite higher arrivals, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Mustard seed arrivals across the country were 1.1 million bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up from 900,000 bags the previous day. Prices rose on the back of improved demand for the domestic oilseed as edible oil imports were more expensive, traders said.

Mustard seed prices were steady in Kota, Rajasthan, at INR 7,000 per 100 kg, Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader, said. Arrivals in Kota were 21,000 bags, up 1,000 bags from the previous day. 

Meanwhile, India's rapeseed market is witnessing strong momentum as farmers shifted sales to private traders, as spot market prices were higher than the minimum selling price, Amit Gupta, an analyst at Kedia Advisory, said in a note. The rally in edible oil prices, fuelled by geopolitical tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, has supported domestic oilseed prices. Higher crushing demand and rising exports of rapeseed meal, particularly to China, are further tightening the market, he added.

SOYBEAN prices in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at INR 2,825-INR 5,850 per 100 kg, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals in the market were 2,500 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), the same as the previous day. In Kota, soybean prices were steady at INR 5,600 per 100 kg, as crushers have already stocked the oilseed due to the high cost of edible oil imports, said Sameriya. Arrivals in Kota were at 11,000 bags, up 2,000 bags from the previous day.

GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 3,250-INR 8,100 per 100 kg. Arrivals were 3,500 bags (1 bag = 30 kg), the same as the previous day. Groundnut prices could rise in the near term due to concerns over lower output, traders said.
