MUMBAI- Futures contracts of jeera fell, while those of coriander and turmeric traded higher on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Friday. Prices of jeera fell amid weak demand, analysts said. Prices of turmeric are in a steady uptrend owing to crop quality concerns and low arrivals, while those of coriander rose supported by strong buying interest, SMC Global Securities said in a note.

At 1551 IST, the most active May contract of CORIANDER was up 0.7% at INR 13,210 per 100 kg, supported by strong buying interest amid lower sowing acreage and expectations of a relatively weaker crop this season, SMC said. In 2025-26 crop year (Jul-Jun), the production of the spice is projected at 9.5-9.7 million bags (1 bag = 40 kg), down from 11 million bags in 2025 and 12 million bags in 2024. However, steady arrivals in the near term are likely to ensure adequate supply, thereby restricting any sharp upside beyond current levels, SMC said.

The most-active May contract of JEERA was down 1.2% at INR 22,085 per 100 kg, amid restrained buying interest at elevated levels, SMC said. Prices have been rising since end March, driven by weather-related concerns in key producing regions, as per Kedia Advisory. Arrivals in mandis also declined in March, falling 23% on year to 80,716 tonnes, indicating tightness in near-term supply, SMC Global said.

Meoreover, rising temperatures in north Gujarat, as flagged by the India Meteorological Department, could affect seed development in late-sown crops and potentially weigh on yields, which is further adding to the upside, Kedia Advisory noted.

The most-active May contract of TURMERIC was up 0.4% to INR 16,420 per 100 kg, following reports of crop damage in parts of Maharashtra due to unseasonal rain, SMC Global Securities said in a note. Prices have been rising on lower-than-normal arrivals in key markets. "Farmers and stockists are holding back supplies in anticipation of better prices, which has tightened availability in the spot market," Kedia Advisory said in a note. Further, issues over quality due to rhizome rot and aflatoxin risks have affected the supply of export-grade material, the brokerage added.
