MUMBAI – The US Department of Agriculture has raised its estimate for global oilseed output for 2025-26 (May-Apr) to 698.21 million tonnes from 697.54 million tonnes estimated in March. Production of oilseeds in countries excluding the US is estimated at 571.97 million tonnes, up from 571.30 million tonnes seen in March, it said in its World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report for April.

 

The output of oilseeds in the US in 2025-26 is unchanged at 126.24 million tonnes. Global ending stocks of oilseeds in 2025-26 are estimated at 145.91 million tonnes, down from 146.58 million tonnes projected last month, according to the department.

 

The USDA has also revised its global soybean output estimate upwards due to higher production in Paraguay and South Africa, which is partially offset by lower output in Uruguay, the department said. Global soybean output is pegged at 427.41 million tonnes, up from 427.18 million tonnes seen in March. The estimate for soybean production in the US is unchanged at 115.99 million tonnes.

 

The projection of global soybean beginning stocks has been raised to 124.81 million tonnes from 123.84 million tonnes estimated in March, mainly due to revised data for the 2024-25 crop in Brazil, the department said. After a review of the 2025 disappearance data, Brazil's 2024-25 production is pegged higher by 1 million tonnes at 172.5 million tonnes, it said. 

 

Global soybean use includes unchanged exports, higher crush, and lower ending stocks, the department said. The estimates of global soybean exports are steady at 187.17 million tonnes, as higher exports by Brazil and Paraguay are

mostly offset by lower exports by the US and Uruguay, it said. Global soybean crush is pegged at 369.35 million tonnes, up from 367.96 million tonnes projected last month due to increased crushing in the US, Brazil, and Algeria. Global soybean ending stocks are seen lower by 500,000 tonnes to 124.79 million tonnes, largely due to lower stocks in Argentina, Brazil, and Egypt, it said. 

 

The estimate for global soybean meal production is raised to 290.14 million tonnes from 289.07 million tonnes seen last month. Soybean meal production in India in 2025-26 is pegged at 7.42 million tonnes, unchanged from March. India is one of the largest importers of soy oil and an exporter of soybean meal.

 

The projection for global vegetable oil production has been raised to 236.49 million tonnes from 235.86 million tonnes estimated in March.  End
