MUMBAI – Heatwave conditions are expected over parts of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday and Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department said. Hot and humid conditions are likely over parts of Odisha and Gujarat from Saturday to Wednesday, over Gangetic West Bengal from Monday to Wednesday, over coastal Maharashtra on Friday and Saturday, over Tamil Nadu till Friday, and over Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka from Friday to Sunday, the weather department said.

 

Maximum temperatures in the western Himalayan region are likely to gradually rise by 6–8 degrees Celsius till Wednesday, the weather bureau said. During this period, maximum temperatures in the plains of northwest India are expected to rise by 8-10 degrees Celsius, while those in central India are likely to rise by 4–6 degrees Celsius, the bureau said.

 

In east India, maximum temperatures are expected to rise gradually by 5–7 degrees from Friday to Monday, the weather department said. In Gujarat, maximum temperatures are likely to rise by 2–4 degrees Celsius till Sunday and in Maharashtra, they are expected to rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius from Friday to Monday, the department said.

 

No significant change in maximum temperatures is expected over the rest of the country, the department said.

 

A western disturbance acting as a cyclonic circulation lies over Jammu, with a trough running in the westerlies, the weather department said. These weather systems are expected to cause light to moderate rainfall or snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, the department said. Another western disturbance is likely to form and affect northwest India from Wednesday, it said.

 

An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northwest Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Uttarakhand, while an east-west trough runs this cyclonic circulation to Manipur. An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over central Assam, the weather bureau said. Under the influence of these systems, heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Arunachal Pradesh till Friday and on Sunday, the bureau said.  A wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over several parts of northeast India till Monday, the bureau said.

 

An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over Bangladesh, while another lies over Odisha. A north-south trough runs from Odisha to the Gulf of Mannar, the weather department said. These weather systems are expected to cause light to moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Sunday, and Odisha till Friday, the department said.

 

The trough stretching from Odisha to the Gulf of Mannar is also expected to cause a wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over parts of south peninsular India till Monday, the weather bureau said.  End
