India Apr-Jan tea exports up 15% on year to INR 78.07 bln, says Tea Board

MUMBAI – India exported tea worth INR 78.07 billion in Apr-Feb, nearly 15% higher than INR 67.98 billion a year ago, according to provisional data released by Tea Board India. In volume terms, exports rose 8.6% to 253.02 million kilograms during the period.

 

Exports from northern India rose nearly 22% on year to INR 57.18 billion in Apr-Feb. On other hand, exports from southern India declined marginally to INR 20.89 billion from INR 20.97 billion. In volume terms, exports from northern India rose over 19% on year to 174.40 million kg, while those from southern India declined nearly 10% on year to 78.62 million kg.

 

The average price of tea exported from north India was INR 327.87 per kg in Apr-Feb, up from INR 321.71 per kg a year ago. The average price of tea exported from southern India rose to INR 265.69 per kg from INR 241.45 per kg a year ago, the data showed. The average unit price of tea exported from the country rose to INR 308.55 per kg in Apr-Feb from INR 291.79 per kg a year ago, according to the data. 

 

During Jan-Feb, India exported 38.91 million kg tea, down over 12%, and in value terms it was INR 11.93 billion, down nearly 8% on year. The average unit price of tea exported from the country during the same period rose over 5% to INR 306.55 per kg from INR 291.31 per kg a year ago, according to the data. 

 

Exports from northern India fell nearly 8% on year to INR 8.37 billion in Jan-Feb. Exports from southern India declined nearly 7% to INR 3.56 billion from INR 3.83 billion. In volume terms, exports from northern India fell nearly 12% on year to 26.73 million kg, and those from southern India declined over 13% on year to 12.18 million kg.
