MUMBAI – Oilseed prices were steady across key markets of the country, traders said. With imported edible oil becoming costly, the demand for domestic oilseeds may increase in the coming days, supporting prices, they said.
MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, were steady at INR 7,350-INR 7,375 per 100 kilograms, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Mustard seed arrivals across the country were at 1.0 million bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down from 1.15 million bags on Monday.
In Kota, Rajasthan, mustard seeds were steady at INR 7,050 per 100 kg after rising by INR 150 on Monday, according to Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Arrivals in Kota were at 18,000 bags, the same as on Monday.
However, a rise in the price of imported edible oil amid the ongoing military conflict in West Asia is likely to increase the millers' dependence on domestic oilseed, which will support prices, market participants said. Domestic mustard oil prices have risen by INR 180 to INR 1,490 per 100 kg since the end of February, they said.
SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh were steady at INR 2,825-INR 5,850 per 100 kg, after rising on the previous day due to lower arrivals and firm demand for domestic oilseeds, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals in the Ratlam market were at 2,500 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), the same as the previous day. In Kota, soybeans were steady at INR 5,700 per 100 kg due to limited demand at higher rates, said Sameriya. Prices had risen by INR 300 the previous day, he said. Arrivals in Kota were at 10,000 bags, the same as the previous day.
GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 3,250-INR 8,100 per 100 kg. Arrivals were at 3,500 bags (1 bag = 30 kg), the same as the previous day. Groundnut prices could rise in the near term due to concern over lower output, traders said.
