MUMBAI – Soybean prices rose in key markets across the country on lower arrivals and firm demand for domestic seeds, traders said. Mustard seed prices were mixed, falling in one market and rising in another, while groundnut prices held steady, they said.

MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, fell INR 50 to INR 7,350-INR 7,375 per 100 kilograms due to a rise in arrivals, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Mustard seed arrivals across the country were at 1.15 million bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down from 1.20 million bags on Friday.

However, mustard seed prices in Kota, Rajasthan, rose by INR 150 to INR 7,050 per 100 kg due to lower arrivals, according to Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Arrivals in Kota were at 18,000 bags, down 1,000 bags from Friday.

A rise in the price of imported edible oil amid the ongoing military conflict in West Asia is likely to increase millers' dependence on domestic oilseed, which will support prices, market participants said. Domestic mustard oil prices have risen by INR 180 to INR 1,490 per 100 kg since the end of February, they said.

SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh rose by INR 25 to INR 2,825-INR 5,850 per 100 kg due to lower arrivals and firm demand for domestic oilseeds amid costly imports, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals in the Ratlam market were at 2,500 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), down 200 bags from Friday. In Kota, soybean prices rose by INR 300 to INR 5,700 per 100 kg. Arrivals in Kota were at 10,000 bags, down 2,000 bags from the previous day.

GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 3,250-INR 8,100 per 100 kg. Arrivals were at 3,500 bags (1 bag = 30 kg), down 200 bags from Friday. Groundnut prices could rise in the near term due to concern over lower output, traders said.
