MUMBAI – Mustard seed prices rose in key markets of the country due to firm demand from millers for domestic oilseeds as cost of imports have risen, traders said. Soybean and groundnut prices were steady in key markets, they said.
MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, rose INR 25 to INR 7,425-INR 7,450 per 100 kilogram due firm demand, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Mustard seed arrivals across the country were at 1.1 million bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up from 900,000 bags on Wednesday.
In Kota, Rajasthan, mustard seed prices rose INR 20 to INR 6,920 per 100 kilogram on Wednesday, according to Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Arrivals in Kota were at 18,000 bags, down 1,000 bags from the previous day. Prices increased due to good demand from crushers, he said. A rise in cost of imports of edible oil amid the ongoing military conflict in West Asia is likely to increase millers' dependence on domestic oilseed, which will support prices, market participants said. Domestic mustard oil prices have risen by INR 180 to INR 1,490 per 100 kg since end of February, they said.
SOYBEAN prices in Ratlam, Madhya Pradeh, were steady at INR 2,825-INR 5,825 per 100 kg due to limited demand at higher rates, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals in the Ratlam market were at 2,800 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), up 100 bags from the previous day. There was limited activity in the market due to Hanuman Jayanti festival, Porwal said. Many markets were shut on account of the festival, he said. In Kota, soybean prices were steady at INR 5,400 per 100 kg. Arrivals in Kota were at 12,000 bags, same as the previous day.
GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 3,250-INR 8,100 per 100 kg. Arrivals were at 3,800 bags (1 bag = 30 kg), same as the previous day. Groundnut prices could rise in the near term due to concern over lower output, traders said.
