MUMBAI – Prices of mustard seed in key market of Jaipur, Rajasthan, fell as arrivals rose from Monday, while those in Kota were steady, traders said. Soybean prices were steady in Kota but fell in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, and groundnut prices fell in Ratlam, they added.

MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, fell by INR 25 to INR 7,400-INR 7,425 per 100 kilograms due to a rise in arrivals, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Mustard seed arrivals across the country were at 900,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up from 700,000 bags Monday. Markets were closed on Tuesday for Mahavir Jayanti.

In Kota, mustard seed prices were steady at INR 6,900 per 100 kg on Wednesday after rising on Monday, according to Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Arrivals in Kota were at 19,000 bags, up 1,000 bags from the previous day. As prices had increased the previous day, demand was limited at elevated rates and higher supply, Sameriya said.

However, a rise in cost of imports of edible oil amid the ongoing military conflict in West Asia is likely to increase millers' dependence on domestic oilseed, which will support prices, market participants said. Domestic mustard oil prices have risen by INR 180 to INR 1,490 per 100 kg since Feb. 27, they said.

SOYBEAN prices in Ratlam fell by INR 25 to INR 2,825-INR 5,825 per 100 kg due to poor demand at higher rates and also due to higher arrivals, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals in the Ratlam market were at 2,700 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), up 500 bags from Monday. In Kota, soybean prices were steady at INR 5,400 per 100 kg. Arrivals in Kota were at 12,000 bags, up 1,000 bags from the previous day.

GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam fell INR 100 to INR 3,250-INR 8,100 per 100 kg. Arrivals were at 3,800 bags (1 bag = 30 kg), up 100 bags from Monday. Groundnut prices could rise in the near term due to concern over lower output, traders said.
