India Feb tea production down over 34% YoY at 16.65 mln kg, says Tea Board

MUMBAI – Tea production in India fell over 34% on year to 16.65 million kilograms in February, according to provisional data released by the Tea Board India. The country had produced 25.40 million kg of tea a year ago.

 

In February, tea production in north Indian states fell to 4.11 million kg from 10.78 million kg a year ago. Production in south India was down over 14% on year at 12.54 million kg, the tea board said.

 

In north India, tea output from Assam fell to 410,000 kg from 1.17 million kg recorded a year ago. Output in the Assam Valley fell to 360,000 kg from 1.09 million kg a year ago. Production in West Bengal fell to 3.63 million kg from 9.38 million kg a year ago.

 

In south India, Tamil Nadu reported tea production was down over 18% at 8.44 million kg in February from 10.31 million kg a year ago.  End
