NEW DELHI - Futures contracts of turmeric and coriander rose on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Monday due to firm demand. However, jeera prices fell slightly amid subdued demand and steady arrivals, according to analysts.
At 1600 IST, the most-active April contract of TURMERIC was up 3.6% at INR 15,366 per 100 kilograms, as tight supply and steady domestic and overseas demand supported prices. Marathwada region is currently witnessing arrivals of only 5,000–6,000 bags (40 kg each), SMC Global Securities said in a note. The region accounts for nearly 40% of the total output.
In addition, concerns about yield due to rainfall in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka are also supporting prices. However, the pace of arrivals is expected to accelerate to 100,000 bags per day in April, it added. "The anticipated surge in supplies from the region is expected to keep prices under pressure," SMC Global said.
The most-active April contract of JEERA was down 0.1% at INR 21,880 per 100 kg, amid subdued buying interest and steady arrivals. Gujarat is witnessing steady arrivals of around 70,000 bags (60 kg each), with Rajkot reporting 35,000–40,000 bags daily. "The outlook remains mildly bearish as rising arrivals may ease supply tightness and limit upside," SMC Global said.
The most-active April contract of CORIANDER was up 2.7% at INR 12,232 per 100 kg amid firm demand and steady arrivals. About 40–50% of the total crop has already reached markets, SMC Global said. Further inflows from key producing states such as Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are expected in the coming days, it added.
The contract may trade within the INR 11,840–INR 11,980 range due to weak buying interest at higher price levels, SMC Global said.
