NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of jeera and coriander fell slightly on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange due to tepid demand. However, turmeric prices continued to rise on firm demand and below-normal arrivals in major markets, according to analysts. 

The most active April contract of TURMERIC was up 1% at INR 14,628 per 100 kilograms as demand remained firm in domestic and overseas markets. In addition, below-normal arrivals in major markets supported prices. "It is reported that both farmers and stockists have significantly reduced their stocks, providing a base for the market," Kedia Advisory said in a note. 

However, arrivals are expected to improve next month onwards, SMC Global Securities said in a note. The brokerage sees the contract trading around INR 14,050-INR 14,850 per 100 kg for the day. 

The most-active April contract of JEERA was down 1% at INR 21,865 per 100 kg as limited buying amid steady crop arrivals weighed on the prices. "Arrivals around 70,000 bags (60 kg each) in Gujarat are expected to remain steady over the coming weeks, indicating limited scope for any meaningful recovery in the near term," SMC Global Securities said. 

However, concern about late-sown crops in the major jeera-growing belts in Gujarat following heatwave warnings are likely to limit the fall in prices, Kedia Advisory said. 

The most-active April contract of CORIANDER was down 0.2% at INR 11,914 per 100 kg, as higher arrivals pressured prices. "Approximately 40–50% of the crop has already arrived so far in mandis, with additional inflows anticipated from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh in the coming days," SMC Global said. Arrivals are likely to remain steady in the near term, suggesting limited scope for any significant recovery from current levels, it added. The brokerage sees the contract trading around INR 11,890-INR 12,030 per 100 kg for the day.
