MUMBAI – Mustard seed prices fell in Rajasthan's Jaipur as there was subdued demand at higher prices, traders said. On the other hand, soybean and groundnut prices rose in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, due to firm demand, they added.

 

MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur fell by INR 50 per 100 kilograms to INR 7,175-INR 7,200 as prices had risen by INR 225 the previous day and there was poor demand at those prices, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Mustard seed arrivals across the country were at 1.1 million bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the same as the previous day, according to GGN Research.

 

However, concerns about lower output will cap the losses in the near term, traders said. This season, several regions experienced dry conditions combined with rising temperatures, which accelerated crop maturity and affected seed development, Amit Gupta, analyst at Kedia Advisory, said. Mustard crops typically benefit from winter showers, which help improve plant growth and yield potential.

 

Mustard is a key oilseed and plays a critical role in the domestic edible oil balance. Changes in mustard production, stock availability, and global edible oil prices directly influence domestic oil prices, crusher margins, and farmer income, he said.

 

In Kota, Rajasthan, mustard seed prices were steady at INR 6,550 per 100 kg, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. But concern about lower production could support prices, Sameriya said. Arrivals were at 22,000 bags, the same as the previous day, he said.

 

SOYBEAN prices in Ratlam rose INR 100 to INR 2,850-INR 5,850 per 100 kg, due to firm demand from millers, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals in the Ratlam market were at 2,300 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), down 100 bags from the previous day. In Kota, however, soybean prices were steady at INR 5,450 per 100 kg, Sameriya said. Arrivals in Kota were at 12,000 bags, the same as the previous day, he added.

 

GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam rose INR 100 to INR 3,250-INR 8,200 per 100 kg due to firm demand, according to Porwal. Arrivals were at 3,700 bags (1 bag = 30 kg), up 300 bags from the previous day. Groundnut prices could rise further in the near term due to concern about lower output, traders said.
